How to Lose Weight Successfully

Obesity is an epidemic in the United States, and in fact in the whole world. Obesity, which increases diabetes and blood pressure, will increase death from heart disease despite all the amazing advances of the last 30 years.

We've all heard about different diets - Atkins, South Beach, Weight Watchers  and others. What is best for your heart? These are important recommendations:

  1. Don't drink calories (sweetened soft drinks and sports drinks).
  2. Increase intake of fruit, vegetables, and fish.
  3. Start meals with a salad (with low calorie dressing).
  4. Use canola or safflower oil instead of butter or  margarine.
  5. No fast food - less than once a week.
Exercise, exercise, exercise - 30 minutes/day.
