Exercise – How Much? What Kind?

We all know that exercise is very important. How much exercise is best is not always easy to say. As a general rule however, more is better, at least up to about an hour a day. But while more is better, a little is better than none at all. And you don’t have to work up a sweat to exercise. Nor do you have to join a gym, or even take time out of your day to exercise. Just move! Walk instead of driving. Try parking at the end of the parking lot, not closest to the door. Take the stairs instead of the elevator (you’ll probably save time if you do this). Or just walk around your home – inside or outside.

If you haven’t been exercising regularly and plan to do more than just walking, if you have chest pain or shortness of breath with exercise, or if you smoke, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, or a family history of  early heart disease (male relatives before age 55, female relatives before age 65), talk to your doctor first. Otherwise, just do it!
