Caffeine
Many people with heart problems have been advised by friends and family, and quite possibly, their doctor to avoid caffeine. The truth, surprising to many is that we have no reason to believe that caffeine is hazardous to your heart.
There are some people who are better off avoiding caffeine. This includes the occasional person who gets palpitations or extra heartbeats after consuming caffeinated drinks. For the remainder of heart patients caffeine does not seem to be a problem.
Often we ask people to avoid caffeine before certain heart tests are performed, especially hospitalized patients. This is done because caffeine can interfere with some of the necessary tests, particularly during hospitalization. Caffeine is not usually withheld because of concerns about the risks.
